Vicky Hentz has been a member of the Moms Offering Moms Supportor MOMS Club in Helena since 1997. She still attends the meetings,even though her children are 15 and 11.
?It?s a good thing for women,? she said.
The MOMS Club is a nonprofit group that provides activities andsupport for mothers and their children during the day.
The MOMS Club in Helena is hoping to increase its membership andis holding a Valentine?s Day open house on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to12:30 p.m. at the Lewis and Clark Library.
?The real goal is to give moms someplace to go where they can beeffective in their motherhood,? Hentz said. ?We are also a serviceorganization.?
The group has helped cook for homeless events, raised money fora new playground accessible to children with disabilities in theworks at Centennial Park and donated baskets to FlorenceCrittenton.
Beth Ries is the co-president for the second year and the motherof four children, Isaac, 6, Jacob 5, Josephine, 3 and Cecilia,2.
?The women in MOMS Club have offered amazing help and support tomy family for the last five and a half years that I have belonged,?she said. ?After my children were born, they showered me with hotmeals and helping hands like no one else could have provided. Theytook the kids out so I could get rest, made lunches for them andbasically provided a safe environment for my kids to be in while Irecuperated.?
Besides all the help they gave Ries after the birth of herchildren, she says the field trips, play groups and activitieshelped her children develop their social skills. ?
?We choose to stay home, but that doesn?t mean we choose to beisolated,? she said.?
And being a group member doesn?t mean all moms don?t work, itjust means that the moms are home during the day, Hentz said.
It?s about having a family of mothers who stand up and supporteach other, Ries said.
