Social Worker

? Children's Home Society of Virginia Children's Home Society of Virginia, a statewide nonprofit adoption agency headquartered in Richmond, has an immediate opening for a Social Worker dedicated to finding permanent homes for older children in the foster care system. ? ? Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:? ? Counsels and aids individuals, families and groups requiring the assistance of the agency; interviews client and family members to gather information on their social, health, emotional and economic well being; assesses the needs and strengths of the individual and family unit; makes referrals to resources within the community; represents the agency in the community and interagency meetings as needed.? ? Job responsibilities include:? ? Recruits, educates and trains adoptive families;? ? Reviews records of families that are adopting. Completes summaries as needed;? ? Completes assessments of children for whom adoption is planned including review of their record, personal interviews and collateral contacts;? ? Coordinates and attends parent training classes;? ? Prepares case records and completes home studies of individuals seeking to adopt children, including post-placement supervision and the final reports to the court;? ? Arranges and coordinates placements of children with adoptive parent(s) including pre-placement visits, completes subsidy and adoption agreements and conducts supervision;? ? Engages in community outreach, providing the public with general information about adoption services and specifically about the adoption of children from foster care; ? ? Counsels and provides direct services to clients ? ? Incumbent shall have a minimum of a Master?s Degree from a college or university accredited by the Council on Social Work Education;? ? Have two years of experience in providing casework services to children and their families, preferably in the adoption field; ? ?
